New photo gallery: Antonio Parker Quartet at new HR-57

Written by

HR-57's opening weekend at its new location at 1007 H St NE featured the Antonio Parker Quartet on Friday night. Its second move in as many years, the new location, while not quite finished, is already promising to be the best yet. The acoustics of the space allow the music to fill the venue in ways neither previous space did, the seating is more spacious, and the front area that will be turned into a coffee and breakfast spot boasts big, open windows that connect the space to the street in a way sure to catch the ear of any passerby.

Along with Antonio Parker on saxophone, last night featured Cheney Thomas on bass, Darius Scott on piano, and Blackbyrds veteran and mentor to Parker Keith Killgo on drums. The quartet was joined by fellow Blackbyrds veteran Allan Barnes on soprano sax.

Killgo originally discovered Parker while playing a gig at Blues Alley when he heard Parker playing on the street at the corner of M and Wisconsin in Georgetown.

The Blackbyrds are best known for their hits Rock Creek Park and Walking In Rhythm. Their latest album, Gotta Fly, was released this year.
