When Dr. Leonard Brown, saxophonist and father of Omrao Brown, Bohemian Caverns owner, was unable to make scheduled gigs this weekend, the cave had to find musicians to spell him as bandleader of Joyful Noise. Saturday night saw local trumpeter Donvonte McCoy step in.

I've had the pleasure of hearing McCoy with the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra and vocalist Kiyem Ade but Saturday was the first opportunity I had to hear him fronting a band. He and his band mates did not disappoint.

With McCoy were Herman Burney on bass, Bob Butta on piano, Herb Scott on saxophone and Kush Abadey on drums.
